Our History

Founded in 1931, Trinity UMC was originally named the East Gary United Evangelical Brethren Church and started with 22 members in the East Gary/Lake Station area. With growing membership, they soon outgrew their worship space.

The current building on the north side of Hobart- 3561 Randolph St- was started in April 1958 with the first Worship Service held on January 3, 1960.

In 1968, the United Evangelical Brethren merged with the Methodist Church becoming Trinity United Methodist Church.

Our history can be traced through predecessor denominations back to 1801 when Methodist circuit-riding preachers crossed the Ohio River, entering the Indiana Territory.
