Why do we collect for monthly missions?

     In ancient times, meaning- before smartphones, Trinity designated all pennies and nickels collected in the offering plates to be designated to a specific charity each month. That quickly evolved into all the coins collected in the offering plates becoming designated as "Pennies & Nickels." 

     That tradition continues to this day with white baskets passed along with the offering plates during the Offertory.
